I read something about how the Global Integrated blahblah is based out of Brussels. Hey, isn't that where Jean-Claude Van Damme is from?
Yeah the original JOE comics group did have a few non-American special forces type guys (but from other NATO friends of the U.S. such as Great Britain), but in real life our own U.S. Special Operations forces DO cross train with other SpecOps groups from friendly allies. That part is true, but as a whole, the JOE team IS supposed to be an AMERICAN military force.
We'll see how the movie is. It might be a good generic action movie on it's own, but it will not really be G.I. JOE as we grew up with.

*steps on soapbox* I offer my thoughts expressed in the thread about the live action movie:
Regardless of the lack of the "Real American Hero" aspect, lack of red, white and blue in the logo and the lack of anything the original JOE stood for - I still cannot get behind their crappy casting and generic costume designs. This movie is GI JOE in name only (and barely even that).
Regarding live action movie costumers, I agree with Law. I costume as Scarlett because I love the character and I believe in the ideals and principles of the show from which I am costuming. To costume from something is to promote it. I, personally, don't agree with those that choose to promote the distorted ideals of this film.

I always thought that this group was dedicated to the cartoon/comic JOE team, and if that is the case, I would have a problem allowing costumes from the film since they completely ignored them. However, I'm not placing a vote in this, since my own costume is from the 12" Adventure Team of the '60s and '70s.

Message to G.I Joe Fans
Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.
First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name “G.I. Joe” will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.
The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch “realistic military” figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.
The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their “fight for freedom wherever there is trouble” against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.
This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.
G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.
Thank you.

I agree with the post stating that maybe it will bring new fans to the web-site, get more people involved and maybe we can convert them to earlier versions of the Joes.
To say that movie Joes shouldn't be allowed is like saying that characters from Venom Vs. Valor shouldn't be accepted. We, as fans, may not like the new costumes, but the movie is still part of the Joe universe.
If someone wants to join this group with a movie costume, let them. Then grab that Mindbender guy to warp their minds and show them the light. "You don't need to wear all black; you can wear a bright yellow and red flamethrower uniform into combat and be just as effective"

"As far as the uniforms, everybody jokes about them being X-Men rejects, I agree. The great thing about the uniforms of the Joes is that, although most of the time they aren't tactically sound, they were a way of instantly identifying each character." OTTER, I couldn't agree more.
Yeah I was overjoyed when I heard that it was going to happen, but then reality kicked in and I thought "oh oh...how is Hollywood going to change it?"
The costumes were kind of goofy sometimes, but they matched the function, and sometimes the personality of the character- As for the costumes, I say that the whole black armor thing didn't come from X men, but from the first Batman movie. Neat looking...but not right! Even as odd as some costumes may have looked, they were still functional- Look at Airborne: Khaki base uniform, Helmet with goggles OK. Blue vest? A little bit odd, but there is BLUE body armor-often used by troops On U.N. missions to mark them clearly as peacekeepers- A mission that G.I. Joe could have. I say again some of the uniforms are odd. But the whole black Leather thing is SILLY. (did you ever wonder why black fell out of favor with SWAT teams...may be because black stands out too much?"
As for this whole G.I Joe being a U.N. thing...remembers this: in the first issue of GIJ, "operation Lady Doomsday" General FLAGG said to call up DELTA force, code name...” G.I. JOE"!
G.I. Joe A real American Hero wasn't named that way for nothing!- Yes, the whole G.I. Series did, and continues to inspire me (what do you think I hum in my head when I m doing a hard PT session, or I am running thru buildings on a MOUT scenario?)
AS for accepting them-well, I agree, let them in. Hey you let me in, and I had a made up costume: (but at least I looked the part) I would caution us about falling prey to the whole "Civil War re-enactor/Trek fan Canon bit" where we are so wound up about what is "correct" that this stops being fun.
All the same, I am going to have to watch this movie the same way watch movies like "iron eagle" "stargate" and "Broken Arrow” Turn off my experience/memory and have fun with it. (And then get mad about it when I leave the theatre)
My apologies about not being here for so long-I am currently at a Prison Facility somewhere in the Middle East trying to keep the lid on some Cobras!
Keep it up folks, you are doing great!
F.I.D.O.!!!!

.....mask on: Batman, mask off: GI JOE, mask on: Batman, mask off: GI JOE...... etc. Hey with one bodysuit, you can make a lot of costumes. Just grab a Batman mask and cape, maybe some Wolverine claws. That's 3 suits already!
*ugh*

If I do a costume from this craptacular movie it will be Duke in Multicam, I can pull that off already Alright I cheated, it is me at a airsoft event, but the expenditure for this "costume" is what its worth to me, I can not stand that BLACK batman suits.
