There's a second version of Mutt I didn't know that. Hey where's Junkyard? KAR

At Dragon*Con 2008, I found my costume didn't fit anymore. In a good way--I was swimming in the thing. Now I've finally gotten around to beginning a re-do. On my first go, I created the red shoulder pads by modifying and painting military load-bearing suspenders: The pads (but no vest) matched, more or less, the cartoon look of the character. However, I was never entirely happy with what I did. The pads did not conform to the body enough, so they kinda stuck out at the ends, especially on the back. This time I'm doing the vest, as seen on the action figure. classic: Recent re-do of the classic style: I recently got this hunting vest on eBay: I have already removed the rifle stock pad on the shoulder, and the shell loops. I also have removed the extra material on the back (which was a pouch for stashing game), and a new hem is being added along the bottom where I cut it. Next: figuring out new shoulder pads!

By v.2 I mean MY second version. But yes, there were several incarnations of the action figure. The original (and the recent classic-style update) is the look I'm going for.

Oh I see. For the shoulder pads you can get a police tactical vest and just take the pads off of them. I know Galls carries those. Hope that is a help to you. Love the dog btw. KAR

Cool. Mods to that vest will work nicely. I also love the picture you got with Junkyard.

Yeah, that was a lucky opportunity. A couple who trains seeing-eye dogs brought a couple young trainees to Dragon*Con to help them learn to deal with crazy, crowded and unpredictable situations. It doesn't get any more crazy, crowded and unpredictable than Dragon! When I was thinking of getting a dog I considered getting a Rottie. I finally decided they're too much dog for my small place, and are kinda slobbery for my tastes--those big, sloppy, drooly mouths of theirs. (But great dogs...very loyal, easily trained, etc.) I did end up with a black dog but she otherwise doesn't look a thing like Junkyard, being a 48 lb. Lab mix with a sleek build. Maybe I'll do a shoot with her anyway. Thanks, kar, I'll look into those tac vests (although I have previously found them to be cost-prohibitive).

I've looked into stuff like this before: (using just the pads) Which would be just about perfect...not exactly matching the puffier look of the figure, but a nice bit of a modern update. But even airsoft versions (which this is) start at $45, which is more than I hope to spend on something I'm going to cut up. Might have to bite the bullet...or maybe it would be almost as easy to make them from scratch.

Hey Mutt. Actually in Galls, they aren't as expensive as you would think. I found one for $65. That isn't too terribly expensive. KAR

It is to me. For just a pair of shoulder pads, anyway. Here's something some of you are not going to like I was at Wal-Mart in the customer service line, and spotted one of those ID tag machines. I was contemplating making a backup tag for my dog when I spotted G.I. Joe dogtags! I could not resist making a pair: Yes, it's the new evil logo. Believe me, I would've preferred the old one. But chances are we're going to have to get used to it--I would not be at all surprised if the logo doesn't start showing up on classic-style toy packaging (not just movie-specific toys). If it helps, I'm going to paint over "The Rise of Cobra". I got a chain for them, and I'll be putting on silencers.

Ohhhh sweet! Those look really nice. One thing though no one knows Jinx's real name because it says classified on her file card which is rather strange. KAR

How much did it cost you to get the dog tags made? Does anyone know Jinx's real name? KAR

$6 apiece. After I paint out "rise of cobra" I'll cover them with a flat clearcoat to prevent oxydation of the engraving...and to cut down the gloss.

For those shoulder pads, I would just get some red cloth and some pillow stuffing from a crafts store, and have someone sew them on if you can't sew them yourself. But if I had to take something off a military tac vest I would use a standard military load bearing vest. You can find them for about $20 now since they're considered to be out of service. I actually have a couple of them myself, I could probably send you one.
