The San Diego Comic-con International is probably one of the largest media conventions in the nation with a recent attendance of over 125,000 people. Major companies like Paramount, Warner Bros., Hasbro and Mattel come to exhibit at this show to highlight new product and see what fans are interested in. Media outlets like the Tonight Show, Fox News and the LA Times, make it a point to do extensive coverage. James Cameron, Angelina Jolie and Robert Downey Jr., represent some of the big names that have passed through. The convention also brings major comic book talent like Frank Miller and Adam Hughes, just to name a few. As I mentioned in my Dragon-con 2008 Images thread, the convention attendees, Hasbro and folks, like GI Joe writer, Larry Homa, loved the Cobra outfits. I am sure that they would love to see the forces of GI Joe in mass especially with the new movie and animated series coming out next year. For images, please check my Flickr set at 2008-07-21 to 2008-07-29 - 2008 San Diego Comic-con International. The San Diego Convention Center and Comic-con International have posted next year's dates. Plan early as I imagine that badges will sell out even faster then it did for this year. Online registration is currently available for four-day badges. For more information, please go to Comic-con's website. Dates: Wednesday, July 22, 2009 to Sunday, July 26, 2009

My friends and I are attending comic con this year and are currently putting together our Joe outfits. We have the following that will be attending.
Beachhead '86 Snake Eyes '82 Shipwreck (Comic) Lady Jaye Bazooka Stalker
And possibly a few more, but those are the current ones for sure. This is the first time we will be dressing up for comic con though we have been several times in the past few years, any tips for comic-con cos-playing would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! bullitt, how is your group's effort progressing? If I am inquire, do you have any pictures of how group's outfits? Look forward to hopefully seeing you next month. Will anyone else from this board be attending? One of my friends will have a General Hawk outfit and I am seeing if I can put together a Tunnel Rat outfit in time.

My Beachhead costume is complete all but the magazines in his vest which i still have to either buy and paint or construct. I am also having trouble with picking out the gun. After much research, Beachhead uses a Galil. But the Galil mags are not straight like the gun that the figure has. So i think i will go with either a thompson or UMP.
Snake Eye's costume is complete all but the screenprinted arashakagi logo on his arm.
Shipwreck is complete, Bazooka has changed to Flint, his is almost done, Lady Jaye is almost done, Stalker is getting there, same with General Hawk.
The most complex costumes are Beachhead and Snake Eyes but we have worked hard on getting the other ones as accurate as possible as well. The Hawk one will be pretty simple because the guy doing it doesn't want to spend to much. So he won't have the leather jacket, just a brown BDU top. He's a tall slender guy so i don't know who else he could be. It's going to be hot down there with that Beachhead mask on! I'll try to get some pictures this weekend of the costumes in progress.
I was reading over on the cobra cares forums that they have something big planned so hopefully we can impress as well.
We are staying at the Sheraton hotel north of the convention center, requires a shuttle bus so hopefully we won't have any problems. This is our first year dressing up so any tips would be appreciated.

To bullit, Sorry that I did not get back to you. Here is Comic-con's official weapons policy. www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_masq.shtmlATTENTION ALL COSPLAYERS Important Rules About Costumes with Weapons No functional weapons are allowed at Comic-Con International.
Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as a part of your costume subject to prior approval by security and compliance with the following:
* All costume weapons must be inspected at the security station in Lobby E. * All costume weapons must conform to state and federal law. * Projectile costume weapons must be rendered inoperable. * Costume swords will be tied to your costume in such a way that they can't be drawn. * After each person's costume weapon has been checked, it is tagged by security and you will be given a wristband to wear to designates that your weapons have been checked. Security will escort you to the security station for inspection if your costume weapon is not tagged.
If you do not want to have your costume weapons inspected or tagged, or you are not willing to comply with the foregoing, please do not bring your costume weapons. The key for costume weapons props at Comic-con is that they should be inspected by security in advance at Lobby E and do not use your weapons in a threatening manner. Personally, my associates and I painted the orange tips so our stuff looks real to picture takers. However, we handled our prop weapons in a professional manner around the convention. For example, we rarely point our weapons forward. The schedule has not been officially yet, but I can say that they Hasbro would like some help with their panel on Thursday morning. PM your e-mail address or a phone number and I can try to provide additional information on what is going on.
