Hi I'm new to this board and first off it's not because of the new movie. I was a fan of the cartoon when I was younger and started off by making a Storm Shadow. So naturally next I had to make a Snake Eyes. I made my Snake Eyes costume about a year and a half ago which I based it largely off of SNAKEEYES from this board. I've never been happy with my visor and was looking for some help. I made mine out of syntra. I checked the archives, but didn't find much. I'm a DIY type of guy, but no experience with modeling clay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and welcome. This isn't the most active place around, but people do come by every once in a while. Not having tackled Snake-Eyes myself I don't have any personal experience. I remember one of our Snake-Eyes (eyeses?) mentioning somewhere he simply welded bent iron bands together and looked out between them. However, I do have one suggestion if you do not mind the visor being near-mirror reflective on the outside. For my Low-Light goggles I cut out a piece of Oxford Ultra Vision brand motorcycle helmet visor inserts. Those do come also in clear mirror variety. They seem roughly the right shape and size for Snake-Eyes visor to begin with, and you certainly wouldn't have any trouble seeing out. I don't really know how to go about making the grooves, though. Here's at least one US retailer: www.castlesales.com/html/productDetail.psp?catid=6&prodid=356&start_indx=3Admittedly it's pretty pricey for being basically a single slip of plastic. And this is just me asking personally, but have you given any thought to making a costume of one of the less popular characters? I don't think anybody here is going to think less of you for being one more ninja, though.

I appreciate the reply. It's not all that difficult to see through the grooves. Its just I could never get the "slats" of the visor to bend the same degree without wavering. I know what I mean, I just don't know how to describe it. The insert is an interesting idea though.

I did that because the 1985 figure (which my costume is mostly based on, but with a little of my own variation) has two waist belts. One is the belt holding the pistol holster, so I figured the other belt would hold the bandoleer in place.
That picture would have posted up if you put the [/img] after the link instead of at the beginning.

Hi everyone! I'm new to these boards too, but not to costuming. I'm a 501st member, with an approved Vader costume. I've been a BIG GI*JOE fan since I was a kid too, even though Star Wars has always been my 1st love! ;D GREAT Snake Eyes costume! I recently finished a Snake Eyes costume for me, & a Storm Shadow for my son in time for Halloween. Like you, I stuck with a more traditional Snake Eyes costume. I based it on Sideshow Collectibles recent 12 inch figure line for both Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow. I'd love to post pics here, but I don't know how. I don't have an on-line photo account, such as photobucket. On the 501st forums, I can upload photo directly from my PC. Can I do that here? If so, how? I made my visor from multiple layers of plexiglass. I used a heatgun to bend the plastic to the desired shapes. I'm quite pleased with the results. I'd love to post pics, but again, I'm not sure how. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks, & hope to hear back soon.
